Hunter Rigsby of Rockcastle County announced his commitment to the University of Kentucky baseball team today. Rigsby is a pitcher and 1st baseman from the class of 2018 that plays for the Rockcastle County Rockets and the Cincinnati Flames. He is a well-known Kentucky player and is considered to be one of the best players in the 2018 class in the state. Some of his accolades from the past include the following: being named to the 12th Region KHSAA All Region Tournament Team, being named to the 47th District All-Tournament Team, was named a Rawlings 2018 Top Prospect, and he has been named to two other All-Tournament Teams (WWBA Lake Point GA & WWBA Fort Myers Florida) for his Summer Ball Team. In 2017 for his high school and travel ball seasons he was able to gather 13 wins as a pitcher, had 123 strike-outs against opponents, and also had a .365 batting average with 6 Home Runs on the season. Hunter averages around 88 MPH on the mound.

Not only is Hunter a great athlete, but he is also an amazing student as well. He has a 3.95 GPA, is a member of the Berea Scholars Program, and enjoys taking criminal justice. For fun Hunter loves to hang out with friends, hunt, and fish. One of Hunter’s past coaches described him as a terrific athlete who has a work ethic that is second to none. Hunter ultimately chose UK because he thought it was the best fit for him. Hunter loves the coaches, loves that the school is close to home, and is very grateful he gets the opportunity to play for his dream school. Hunter believes that the coaching staff can help develop him as a player and help him reach new heights in his game. Rigsby hopes to bring a winning attitude to the team, be the best teammate he can possibly be, and help the Wildcats win a Conference and National Championship.

Hunter has worked extremely hard to get to this point in his career. He ultimately has ambitions of earning his college degree and if it is meant to be furthering his playing career after college. From speaking with Hunter it is obvious that he is going to miss playing with his teammates. He has built lifetime friendships along the way that he will cherish for the rest of his life. Hunter made sure that he wanted to thank his family for their sacrifice to allow this to happen, his teammates for always pushing him to be the best player he could be, his coaches both present and past who pushed him in everything he did, and his teachers for helping him be successful in the classroom. We have no doubt in our mind that Hunter will be successful in college both as a player and student. Rigsby is the type of athlete every coach dreams of having and is someone who will continue to push himself to get better every day to make sure he is becoming the best version of himself that he can possibly be.
